The
Gwyneth B. Davis Award
is
presented to persons who promote the participation of women
attorneys in the legal profession and the rights of women under the
law. NCAWA is proud to honor Justice
Robin Hudson as the 2008 recipient of this treasured award. |

Justice Robin E. Hudson
was born in DeKalb
County, Georgia in 1952 and moved to Greensboro, NC with her family
in 1966. She is married and has two grown children. Justice Hudson
graduated from Page Senior High School, Greensboro, 1969; Yale
University in 1973 with a BA degree in philosophy and psychology;
and UNC School of Law in 1976. She was admitted to the North
Carolina Bar in 1976 and practiced law in Raleigh and Durham until
her election to the Court of Appeals in November 2000. She is the
first North Carolina woman elected to the appellate court division
without having been appointed first. She served on the NC Court of
Appeals from January 2001 until December 2006. During that time, she
helped organize and coordinate the Court of Appeals voluntary
mediation program. She began her 8-year term on the Supreme Court in
January 2007. Justice Hudson was a member of the founding committee
for NCAWA in 1978 and has continued as an active participant in the
organization since that time. Professional memberships include the
NCBA and various committees; Wake County Bar Association. N.C.
Association of Black Lawyers; National Association of Women Judges,
American Bar Association Appellate Judges Conference; North Carolina
Judicial Conference, Treasurer since 2002; Sir Walter Cabinet, life
member; Women’s Forum of North Carolina since 2001; Member, Family
Court Advisory Committee since 2001. Justice Hudson’s hobbies
include tennis, running, reading, cooking, gardening, and traveling
with her family. |

Judge Kimberly Taylor
graduated from Duke University with High
Honors in 1977 and from UNC-CH School of Law in 1981. She practiced
law in Alexander County, North Carolina from 1981 until 1986 in a
small general practice. She was a District Court Judge from 1986 to
2000 and has been a Superior Court Judge in the 22nd Judicial
District since her appointment by Governor Hunt when a 3rd Superior
Court Judgeship was created by the legislature in her district in
1999. She was subsequently reelected to an 8-year term which expires
in December 2008. Judge Taylor was the first female judge in the
district in either court. She is married and has 3 children - ages
23, 21 and 9. Judge Taylor has been NCBA Vice President, Chair of
the Education Committee for District Court Judges and has served for
many years on the AOC Judicial Forms Committee. She lives on a 44
acre farm in Alexander County and raises Arabian horses in her
"spare time." |
