  MORE INFORMATION
  Amicus Curiae

Any person may request that NCAWA participate as amicus curiae in an on-going case in state or federal court by contacting the Chair of the Amicus Committee. The requestor does not need to be a party, the attorney representing a party or an NCAWA member. The requestor will submit all materials necessary for a determination of whether NCAWA should participate (this may include a form that covers general information about the case; an opinion or order; a brief summary of the facts and/or issues; or a brief on the issues). NCAWA has an Amicus Committee which reviews the materials provided by the requestor. A guiding factor in the determination whether NCAWA should participate as amicus curiae is whether the issues in the case are connected to the goals of the organization. The final decision whether to participate rests with the Executive Committee. All approvals to participate are contingent upon finding a volunteer brief writer or joining another brief. The Amicus Committee Chair will also review the brief before it is filed, or recruit a reviewer to do so, in order to help ensure that the brief is of high quality and is compatible with the goals of the organization.
